Saint Flannan of Killaloe was the son of an Irish chieftain born in the 7th century. He was the student of Saint Molua. He didn't have the support from his family but he became a monk anyway. He was a missionary monk in Ireland and Scotland. He was the first bishop of Killaloe who was consecrated by Pope John IV when he made a pilgrimage to Rome. He was was a very persuasive preacher that his own father gave up his life as a chieftain and became a monk as well.
He is the patron saint of the Diocese of Killaloe, Ireland.
