Day 2 -- Blessed Thomas Tsuji

There were many saints today to choose from--all of who I had never heard of before. I chose Blessed Thomas Tsuji who was born in Japan to Japanese nobility. He was educated by the Jesuits and joined the Society of Jesus in 1587. He traveled Japan and was best known for his preaching. However, his vocation was cut short when he was arrested and exiled because of his religion. With a disguise, he returned to Japan and resumed his missionary work, but he was soon recaptured, put in prison for a year, and was put to death for his faith. He refused to use his Japanese nobility to gain his freedom.

Let us be bold and strong like Blessed Thomas Tsuji to have the courage to stand up for our religion when we are tested.

1571 to September 7, 1627 (he was burned at the stake in Nagasaki, Japan)
